Minimalist Capsule Wardrobe Guide

Sofia Varga·Published

The 30-Piece Promise

A capsule wardrobe distills your closet to approximately 30 versatile pieces that combine into hundreds of outfits. The goal isn't deprivation — it's intentionality.

Core Foundation (12 pieces)

  • 2 pairs of well-fitting jeans (dark wash + medium)
  • 2 neutral trousers (black + khaki/navy)
  • 3 plain t-shirts (white, black, grey)
  • 2 button-down shirts (white + light blue)
  • 2 knit sweaters (crewneck + turtleneck)
  • 1 blazer or structured jacket

Seasonal Additions (8 pieces)

  • Summer: 2 shorts, 2 lightweight tops, 1 sundress, 1 linen shirt
  • Winter: 2 layering pieces, 1 heavy coat, 1 scarf, 2 warm knits

Color Strategy

Build around 3 neutral base colors (black, navy, grey) and 2-3 accent colors per season. Every top should pair with every bottom — if it doesn't, it doesn't belong in the capsule.

Quality Over Quantity

With fewer items, each piece must work harder. Invest in better fabrics: merino wool, organic cotton, and quality denim that ages well. A $200 jacket worn 200 times costs less per wear than a $40 jacket worn 5 times.
