Color Theory in Fashion: Style with Intent

Understanding color theory transforms how you build and combine outfits. The same principles that guide painters apply directly to personal style.

The Color Wheel in Practice

Complementary colors (opposite on the wheel) create maximum contrast: navy and camel, burgundy and teal. Analogous colors (adjacent) create harmony: blues and greens. Triadic schemes use three evenly spaced colors.

Undertones and Skin Tone

Cool undertones (pink, blue) look best in jewel tones: sapphire, emerald, amethyst. Warm undertones (yellow, golden) shine in earth tones: olive, rust, mustard.

Seasonal Analysis

Spring types suit clear, warm colors. Summer types look best in soft, cool tones. Autumn types glow in warm, muted shades. Winter types command clear, cool colors.
