Heritage Fabric Care: Silk, Wool & Linen

Why Proper Care Matters

Heritage fabrics last decades or generations with proper care. A well-maintained wool coat lasts 30 years; a neglected one is moth-eaten in two seasons.

Silk Care

Hand wash in cool water with pH-neutral detergent. Never wring. Roll in a towel for moisture, lay flat to dry away from sunlight.

Storage

Store clean with acid-free tissue. No plastic bags. Cedar blocks or lavender sachets for natural pest deterrence.

Wool and Cashmere

Wool's natural lanolin provides odor control, needing less washing. Air between wears. Never machine-dry: agitation causes irreversible felting.

Moth Prevention

Always clean before storage. Use airtight containers with cedar lining. Inspect monthly during moth season. Pheromone traps monitor activity.
