Matyo embroidery from the Matyo ethnic group around Mezokovesd was inscribed on UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2012.
Design Evolution
Early Matyo embroidery used only red and blue on white. By the 19th century, the palette expanded to green, yellow, purple, and black.

- Birds: peacocks for beauty, doves for peace
