Flowers of Mezokovesd
Matyo embroidery is one of Hungary's most distinctive folk art traditions, originating from the town of Mezokovesd and surrounding villages.
Signature Style
Matyo designs feature bold, stylized flowers—especially roses, tulips, and hearts—arranged in dense, colorful compositions.
Color Evolution
Early Matyo embroidery used only red and blue threads. By the late 19th century, up to 20 colors were used.
UNESCO Recognition
Matyo folk art was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2012.
