The Korowai as Taonga
A korowai is a hand-woven cloak holding immense cultural significance. More than a garment, it is a taonga (treasure) carrying mana.
Materials
Base from muka (flax fiber). Decorative: kiwi feathers, kaka feathers, taniko borders.
Weaving
Woven using whatu (finger-weaving), no loom. Works from top down. A full korowai takes months.
