Persian Termeh: Luxury Textile Weaving

Termeh is one of Iran's most prestigious handwoven textiles, a luxury fabric whose production has been centered in Yazd for over four centuries. Characterized by intricate paisley (boteh) patterns woven with silk and precious metal threads, termeh represents the pinnacle of Persian textile artistry.

The Weaving Technique

Termeh is woven on a traditional drawloom that requires two operators: the weaver and a pattern controller who manages the complex thread selection. This allows for the creation of elaborate multi-colored patterns.

Boteh (Paisley) Motif

The boteh, recognizable worldwide as paisley, originated in Persia as a stylized cypress tree or flame. In termeh, boteh patterns range from simple curved teardrops to complex compositions with multiple nested elements.

Modern Production

While mechanized termeh production exists, the finest pieces are still handwoven in Yazd workshops. These artisanal termeh fabrics are used for luxury accessories, home decor, and ceremonial garments.
