Persian Carpet Weaving: A Living Art

Threads of History

Persian carpet weaving is a 2,500-year-old art form that produces some of the world's most beautiful and valuable textiles. Each carpet tells a story through its patterns, colors, and knot density.

Regional Styles

Tabriz carpets feature medallion designs, Isfahan pieces showcase garden motifs, and tribal Gabbeh rugs display bold geometric patterns. Each region has developed its own vocabulary of design.

The Knotting Process

A single hand-knotted carpet can take months or years to complete. The Turkish (symmetric) knot and Persian (asymmetric) knot create different textures and levels of detail.

Modern Market

While machine-made carpets dominate the affordable market, handwoven Persian carpets remain luxury items prized by collectors. UNESCO recognized the art as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2010.
