Thai Sinh Skirt: Regional Textile Diversity

The Sinh: Thailand Wrap Skirt

The sinh is a traditional Thai wrap skirt worn by women across the country. Each region produces distinctive styles communicating the wearer origin.

Regional Styles

  • Northern sinh (Lanna): cotton, indigo-dyed, with tin chok patterns
  • Northeastern sinh (Isan): mudmee ikat silk in geometric patterns
  • Central sinh: refined silk with gold thread
  • Southern sinh: batik-influenced patterns

Queen Sirikit Legacy

Queen Sirikit championed Thai textile preservation through the SUPPORT Foundation, reviving endangered techniques and creating markets for village weavers.
